In Argentina it is sold as "fat burner." It is dinitrophenol (DNP), a substance and the life of a woman claimed.

INTERPOL issued a global alert on Monday about a slimming product also known in the world of bodybuilding, which killed a woman in the UK and serious health problems to a Frenchman.

"A global alert was issued by Interpol regarding 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP), an illicit and potentially deadly substance used as a result of diet and fitness aid," said the international police cooperation organization in a statement.

Interpol issued an "orange notice" in this regard, intended to alert the police, public bodies and international organizations, after "the death of a woman in the UK and after the French fell seriously ill after consuming this substance" .

Usually sold in the form of a yellow powder or in capsules, DNP is also presented as cream. The dangers associated with its use have expanded their conditions of illegal production, according to Interpol.

DNP is also found in the composition of some explosives.

It is produced in clandestine laboratories "do not apply any rules on hygiene," exposing "consumers to an increased risk of overdose due to the lack of expertise," Interpol alert.

In the thirties of the last century, DNP is used to stimulate the metabolism and promote weight loss, but was withdrawn from sale after it caused several deaths.

Demand published by the Central Office for combating damage to the environment and public health (OCLAESP) French Interior Ministry, the alert was broadcast in 190 Interpol member countries.
